Wart Treatment at Active Recovery, Courtice
Warts are small, non-cancerous growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on the feet (plantar warts), hands, and fingers. Warts are typically harmless, but they can be unsightly, uncomfortable, and, in some cases, painful, especially when they develop on the soles of the feet or other pressure points.
Plantar warts, which occur on the bottom of the feet, can be particularly bothersome. Due to their location, they are often pressed inward by the weight of the body, making them feel like walking on a small pebble. Warts can spread through direct contact with the virus, so prompt treatment is essential to prevent them from multiplying or spreading to others.
What Can You Do?
- Avoid touching warts, as this can spread the virus to other parts of your body or to other people
- Keep your feet clean and dry, and change your socks daily
- Wear flip-flops or waterproof shoes in public showers, locker rooms, and around pools to avoid contact with the virus
- Do not share towels, shoes, or socks with others to prevent the spread of warts
- If you have a wart, cover it with a bandage to reduce the risk of spreading the virus
What Can We Do at Active Recovery?
- Conduct a thorough examination to diagnose the type of wart and determine the best treatment approach
- Offer cryotherapy (freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen), a common and effective treatment that causes the wart to blister and eventually fall off
- Provide topical treatments that contain strong acids or immune-boosting agents to help eliminate the wart
- Utilize laser therapy for stubborn warts that do not respond to other treatments, targeting and destroying the wart tissue
- Perform minor surgical procedures to remove warts that are particularly large or resistant to other treatments
- Provide advice on preventing recurrence and spreading, ensuring your warts are effectively managed and reduced
